How Lovable and Replit meter AI work

Lovable uses one credit balance for building the app, hosting it, running its built-in backend (Lovable Cloud) and AI features in deployed apps. Plan mode costs 1 credit per message, and Lovable checks in when a single message crosses 20 credits by default. Lovable's docs say backend services pause shortly after credits run out, and AI features in deployed apps stop.

Replit's Agent has Free Mode, Power Mode and Max Mode. Paid modes and confirmed paid work use effort-based pricing, which follows the complexity of the request. Replit also sells credit packs, with discounts on larger amounts.

Free plans and publishing an app

On Lovable's free plan, build credits come 5 a day, up to 30 a month. Lovable says a subscription's included grant covers publishing and running an app.

Replit lists a free Starter plan in its docs, with one published app whose deployment expires after 30 days but can be re-published. Publishing costs come out of monthly credits, and usage-based fees start only after those credits are used. Replit's development databases cost nothing, while production databases are billed.

Payments, code and teams

  • Lovable: built-in payments need Pro or higher. Git sync is on every plan. Workspaces support unlimited members, and plans are priced by credits, not seats.
  • Replit: Agent sets up a Stripe sandbox, then you connect your live account, on paid plans. A Git pane works with GitHub, and Pro allows up to 15 collaborators.

Where Overskill fits as a third option

Overskill Starter is $25 a month, billed monthly, for 2,500 credits, which matches Lovable Pro on monthly billing and sits above Replit Core. Overskill's help center puts hosting, page views and sign-ins at zero credits, and live apps keep working at zero credits, though AI-powered changes stop. Every Overskill plan can export a ZIP of code and data. It has no free plan, only 500 starting credits.
