Overskill vs Lovable: the main difference

Both builders turn a plain-language request into a web app, and both meter the work in credits. The difference is what the credits cover and how you start.

Lovable lists a free plan with a daily grant of build credits, and on paid plans one credit balance that pays for building, chat, hosting with its built-in backend (Cloud) and AI features in deployed apps. Overskill lists no free plan, two paid plans with a fixed monthly credit allowance, and an access flow that its home page calls an invite-only beta.

Cost and credit differences, builder by builder

The two meters are not the same size, so compare them on one task rather than on the numbers.

  • Lovable Free: a daily grant of 5 build credits, up to 30 a month, per its pricing FAQ.
  • Lovable paid plans: Pro and Business add a credit balance. Monthly plan credits expire two months after issue, and top-up credits last 12 months.
  • Lovable per-prompt examples: its docs list a button change at 0.50 credits and adding authentication at 1.20. Credits are not necessarily equal in value across plans, per its FAQ.
  • Overskill: Starter holds 2,500 credits a month and Studio 12,000. Its typical change uses 400 to 1,500 credits, and plan credits expire monthly.
  • Overskill start: no free plan, though new accounts begin with 500 credits.

Hosting, ownership and export: where the two differ

Lovable says hosting is covered for most smaller apps by the grant that comes with a subscription, while apps with significant traffic or size can draw on your credit balance. It also says you own your code, subject to third-party rights in the underlying AI models.

Overskill's terms say generated apps are yours, subject to third-party licenses for included parts. Its pricing page lists a ZIP export of code, database structure and data on any plan, and storage past the included amounts is billed from credits. Overskill's own comparison page says Lovable's built-in payments need Pro or higher; that is Overskill's reading of Lovable's documentation, not a finding of this site.

Use case and workflow: which job fits which builder

Lovable fits a reader who wants to try building before paying, who wants hosting to draw from the same balance as building, and who is happy to watch credit use per message. Overskill fits a reader who has one defined app, such as a client portal or booking flow, and prefers a fixed monthly allowance with a ZIP of the code and data.

Whichever you choose, run the same small test in both: save and reload, check that two users cannot see each other's records, and try the app on a phone. Overskill's own comparison page suggests the same checks.

Who should pick Lovable and who should pick Overskill

Pick Lovable if you want a free start, a single balance for building and running the app, and published per-prompt examples. Pick Overskill if the app is a custom business tool, you can budget for a paid plan from the first month, and you want typical credit figures for changes and fresh builds.

Overskill publishes its own Overskill vs Lovable page, reviewed September 8, 2026, and says it has not benchmarked speed or cost. This page does the same: it compares published terms, not results, and App Cost Desk has not used either builder.
