Can I sell an app I made with AI? What the builder's terms say
The terms of Overskill, Lovable and Base44 each say you own what you build. Overskill's terms also bar reselling the Overskill service itself, not an app built with it.
| Builder | Who owns the app | Catch |
|---|---|---|
| Overskill | You own generated apps, subject to third-party licenses | Platform stays Overskill's; reselling the Service itself is barred |
| Lovable | You own your apps and projects, as between you and Lovable | Similar prompts can produce similar or identical output |
| Base44 | You own generated code and apps where the law gives such rights | You review output before using or publishing it |
Overskill's terms say the apps you generate are owned by you, subject to third-party licenses, and its apps can sell access through a built-in checkout on Whop. The best AI app builder for online business list compares the payment routes.

Get started with Overskill →Who owns copyright on AI generated code?
The U.S. Copyright Office's Part 2 report, published January 29, 2025, concludes that copyright can protect generative AI output only where a human author determined enough of its expressive elements, and that prompts alone do not count.
The Office also says including AI-generated material in a larger human work does not bar copyright in that work, and it has issued registration guidance for works with AI-generated content. Lovable's terms word their grant "as between us", so they speak for Lovable and you, not for the law. This is a report of what these sources say, not legal advice.
Handing an app over to a client
Overskill documents a handover for one template, Call Now, and says to do the steps once for each client. Customize the copy for the client and publish, because changes do not go live until you publish. A client's own web address goes on the Domains tab in the editor, and Overskill's entry plan, Starter, allows one custom domain per app.
Overskill also mentions keeping a separate workspace per client, the account space for credits and apps. A remix URL gives anyone a fresh copy of the app without its data. An Export ZIP holds the app's code, database structure and data, up to 50,000 rows per table.
Overskill's pricing page marks GitHub sync as rolling out, while its About page says you can send an app's source code to GitHub, so rely on the ZIP export until you see the GitHub option in your own account.
Overskill's plans article lists white-label options under its quoted Enterprise plans, while its security article says the Overskill branding on sign-in screens and e-mails stays on every plan and is not removed by upgrading, so do not promise a fully white-labeled client app.
Selling copies or access instead
A marketplace listing sells copies of your app to other creators. Subscriptions and one-time purchases can come from the same app through Overskill's checkout. What you charge a client is up to you, per Overskill's handover article. Build a SaaS product with AI covers sign-in, plans and the payment review.
What you answer for as the seller
Overskill's terms make you solely responsible for the applications, content and data you deploy and for your end users, and Overskill disclaims liability to those users. You must review and test generated code before deployment, and healthcare, financial services and legal uses are your responsibility.
Overskill's pricing page says there is no free plan to sign up for, and plans start at $25 a month, billed monthly, as read on October 18, 2026. Lovable and Base44 say the same about ownership and both list free plans. Is Overskill legit covers the company behind these terms.
